The
main efforts of the
Complex Fluids Engineering Laboratory are focused on
the relationship among microstructure, rheology and processing of rheologically complex materials (i.e. asphalts, food dispersions,
lubricants, detergents, etc). Its activities started, 20 years ago, in the
University of Seville. In 1994, members of its research team organised the
Fourth European Rheology Conference. Since 1998, the Laboratory is located
in the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Huelva.

This
Laboratory is
now very well equipped and we can perform a wide variety of rheological
tests on a wide spectrum of materials (from solids to Newtonian fluids).
Moreover, a number of techniques to study the morphology (different kinds
of electronic microscopes, particle size analyser, optical analysis under
shear, etc), thermal properties (i.e. DSC calorimeter) and technological
tests (i.e. penetrometer, etc) are currently available. The Laboratory is
also equipped with different process pilot plants to optimise the
manufacture of a broad diversity of materials.
Finally, the
Laboratory leads a
Ph. D. Program on “Complex Fluids Engineering”, that
has received a “Mention of Quality” from the Spanish “Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia”.
